Opening Remarks: Amy Stern WG'79, WWIB President 1978-79

Amy Stern, Director, Verizon
Amy is Director of Wholesale Markets for Verizon. In this position, she oversees the product management, contract negotiations, and pricing for much of Verizon's wholesale wire line business. Her oversight includes voice and broadband products. Amy has also testified in numerous regulatory proceedings as an expert witness and advocate for Verizon.


Before assuming her current position, Amy was responsible for product development associated with the opening of Verizon's network for the first time to telecommunications carriers for resale purposes. Prior to that, Amy held positions as a Director of Regulatory Affairs, Director of Operations, and as a regulatory analyst. Upon graduating from Wharton Amy joined AT&T as a cost analyst and has been with the company as it evolved into NYNEX, and through two mergers as it evolved into Bell Atlantic and then Verizon.

A native of Brooklyn, New York Amy graduated from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1977. She was a Congressional Intern during her college years. She received her MBA from Wharton in 1979.

Amy has won the Verizon President's Award and five Verizon Excellence Awards for individual achievement and for team leadership. She has also won the Vendor Achievement Award from MCI. She has been a speaker at telecommunications industry conferences and at the Wharton Club of New York.

In addition to her work at Verizon, Ms. Stern does advisory board work for several not-for-profit organizations dealing with literacy, hunger, and women's poverty issues.

Ms. Stern lives in NY with her husband and two teenage daughters.
